My Top 3 Essential Colours for Your Wardrobe Colour Palette

A wardrobe colour palette is one of the first step to create a fresh, modern, youthful attire. In this article I will share with you the top three neutral colours group to build your personal closet and create a fresh and timeless wardrobe, allowing you to mix and match easily all your items together. You will look fresh, bright, elegant and polished. You will also save money by not spending on trendy items that will just sits on your shelves for years, because you didn’t know how to pair them. This is according to me, the perfect neutral palette to create a modern and sophisticated image for yourself.
The Whites

White is the perfect canvas to create any outfit for any occasion. I always recommend my clients to have at least a couple of white t-shirts in different cuts as well as blouses and button-up shirts. These staples will brighten up your image and will make you look fresh, modern and even younger! My advice is to chose diamond white if you are Winter or Summer person and ivory or off-white if you are Autumn/Spring. White as well as it’s variants such as ivory, cream is a versatile colour that will glue all the other pieces in your outfit together. Besides, white symbolizes purity, it reflects lights and will keep you cool in warmer weather. A basic colour allowing you to experiment with different accessories and colours to showcase your personal style.
The Beiges

The second neutral colours group I would not dismiss when building my closet are all the beiges as well as its sister shades such as tan, camel, taupe and even brown (mostly for accessories). Beige is a calm and relaxing colour, evoking a sense of warmth, stability and reliability. Wearing this simple, yet elegant, muted tone can signal to the world that you have it all together. As a deep winter, beige and its variants are not the best colours to complement my complexion and that’s why I like to incorporate it especially for my accessories or layers (shoes, bags, belts, blazers etc). For a sophisticated look, I like to add tan sandals to a beautiful white linen dress in summer. Like white, it’s a perfect neutral color that can complement and match any other colour in your wardrobe.
The Blues

I’m pretty sure 99% of the worldwide population already own a blue jean and that’s why colours such as navy and light blue are essentials for your closet. But also, colour like navy are timeless, elegant and so easy to match with so many different colours. Blue is a peaceful, serene colour. It can promote feelings of calm, creativity, and trust. According to a study on the effects of color on college students, the color blue is also said to lower blood pressure and increase intelligence. When you wear blue, people generally perceive you as calm, trustworthy, reliable, and stable; often associating you with feelings of peace, confidence, and dependability, making it a good choice for situations where you want to project a professional or trustworthy image, like a business meeting or job interview. For a summery fresh look I would go for sky blue and navy for all seasons but especially winter.
What about Black (and Grey)?

Black look particularly good on Summers and Winters people. For instance, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, a summer, looked stunning in black. I personally don’t include black or grey in my wardrobe as much as I used to. Although black is believed to slim your figure, making you appear elegant and sophisticated if you style it well, it also ages you and accentuate your wrinkles, giving you a more severe presence. You will have to put on a more dramatic makeup to not look too pale or greyish. A lovely black gown or corporate suit are fine for business meetings or special events. If you want to convey an authoritative, image then go for it. Otherwise, you have other alternatives such as navy, charcoal, aubergine, forest green.
My advice if you really love those dark colours is to pair them with brighter colours from your seasonal colour palette, such as ruby or royal blue for deep winters. Because using black or grey in excess can age you. Also make sure you are not wearing them around your face.
Finally, as I mentioned previously, you can also pick 2 to 3 accents colours from your seasonal colour palette to add a little punch and personality into your image. Let’s not forget that neutrals are easy to pair but it can get boring over time.
